The first station of the exihibition tour in Europe 2012 is Madeira Drive Dusseldorf, Fischerstr.3.
Hagens brand new gallery opens the door for this on Saturday 10. March.
Some of you might be irritated because the 2 versions of the tour name. Ken named his shows in Japan "cost to coast" because he wanted the people to know about the challenge to do a trip like that without money and on old motorcycles. Ken can not attend the European tour in person, so he has no chance to explain this to the visitors and most of us can not read his words in the book, because this is in Japanese language. And it was a trip from "coast to coast" indeed, thats why this is the headline in Europe.

Best in show: Mattias (Le beef)

Just a few hours ago I drove to Dusseldorf airport and delivered Rico for his flight back home.
Since our event last Saturday I had no time to rest or to write posts. It will take 2-3 more days until I am able to select my own photos or see what others released already.

But one thing I want to state now, and if you could see me now, you would see that Iam over -whelmed by the good feelings I have for everybody who supported us and for all who have been with us. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. It was one of the best days in my life.

With just a few days to go whe're a bit surprised to hear Maurice van den Tillaard/ the Flying Dutchman does not want to take part anymore in the Garage Maniacs foto expo. So that's kind of sad news.
But have we got something in return!
Floris Velthuis is a very well known photographer for magazines like the Dutch "Bigtwin" and "Back Street Heroes" from the UK. Floris did a lot of photoshoots of members of the Garage Maniacs and is very happy to take part with some of these pics! Hell Yeah!!

Now there is a little handicap; time! We really hope to get the prints done in time for the expo. So don't be surprised when there are some empty spots at the start. We really, really hope we can pull this off.

Well, we are getting close. Lots of work and many last minute problems have to be fixed. So I do not have time for extensive posting . But may I ask your attention for some general informations?

Our event is a family event and not a hardcore outlaw biker meeting. If this is what you are expecting, please stay away. If you are looking for a relaxed and mellow meeting and want to have fun with some friends- you are welcome.

The venue is not somewhere out in the fields, it is right in that little town and people are living in the streets where we having the party. They respect us, please respect them and their property too.

The actual event starts on Saturday at 2pm. Dont come early, we need the time for setting up everything.

For the people who are around on Friday we have a little party at the QL. Nothing spectacular, just a pub night. Of course there will be some nice wakeboard and swimming action at the "Blaue Lagune" too. It is your choice.

Most of the questions about the where and what are easy to answer if you check out the hospitality blog.

If you have problems on the way to us, let us know. We will not pick you up if you are 300km away. But if a gremlin bugs you 50km from Nettetal f.e., we will find a way to help. Thanks everybody for the cheering comments, messages and phone calls after the crash.
Yesterday I decided to break Doctors rules and got me a lift to my garage to see myselfs what happend to the bike.
First idea when I saw it was: I have seen worst before. But then I checked out some details and found out that the backbone of frame is bend and the lower section moved about 1" to the back.
Not sure if this damaged something of the engine. The taxator will find out all this.
And my beloved exhaust is fucked up to. But my "California uber alles" stack cover survived. Dont know how, because the all rest of this side is damaged by the slide on the asphalt.

The long ride to Bottrop.......... NOT!!

Last saturday was a fine day to take our bikes off to the Kustom Kulture show in Bottrop, Germany. The weather forcast was not too good, but hey, a chopper's made to ride!
The ride was a short one. After the first gas stop my gear box passed out...... Damn!! I tried to fix it on site , but wasn't able to do so without the right parts. Buddy Martin picked me up, took the bike back to my garage and we where forced to take the car to Germany...
To bad we were visitors today instead of being a part of the show. But it was a cool day after all and we met a lot of our supporting companies again. Now it's back to the garage for me. Got me a gearbox to fix!

its all about the money

I think it is time to explain something essential about our case. Some guys are complaining that there is to much buzz on our blog about money. Selling t-shirts or raffle tickets, having a auction, asking for support.......

Guilty! All this is going on, but is anyone making profit by this? No!!! Our event is completly non-profit. We try to organize an event on a professional level without having a budget at all. Just me and the friends of the QL are taking all the risk with our own money. But we are no rich people, just working men and we all have to feed our familys. Thats why we try to find a way to get to a break even somehow. Non of the supporting companys is a real sponsor. Just small stuff for the raffle. We have no shopping mile where 50 or more dealers pay for their booth. No one pays for entrance. And when you buy a FFTF t-shirt from us, the 5.- profit will be used for Ricos trip.
We are selling drinks and food, yes true. But how much can we sell in a few hours?
The bands play for free and most of the work is on the shoulders of volounteers.
This event is from the people-for the people. And it is a bad joke, that one of the very few non commercial, independent Chopper events is blamed for greed. Who ever is saying so: please tell it face to face to me or one of the volounteers who is spending many,many hours for this case.

If you like our activities we appreciate your support. Please go ahead and buy tshirts, offer some money in the auction, buy raffle tickets or just donate. It really helps and what goes around comes around.
If you have a problem with this- just fuck off.

By the way- the FFTF is doing good but not good enough.
We have the t- shirts with the new design for sale now and still the FFTF. All items of the auction are still availeable, sad but true: not even one offer came in. Sorry Rico.

We dont need drags, lets go for it. CNM2011 will be a cracker.

Yesterday afternoon.
The bike was finally finished. I picked it up. Amazing ride, good weather, everything was fine.
After 30 km a short stop at my house. Little oil spill, so I made the desicion that it is enough for today. Just 4 more km to go to my garage.

Yesterday I framed some of the photographs that Josh Kurpius did send for the exhibition at the meeting. One is from my favourite batch of his work, showing Turk surfing on his bike.
Iam always fascinated when I see pictures of the young dudes doing this dangerous stunt. I never could do this. Okay, Iam an old fart now and maybe to tired. And Gemany is not the country for doing acts like this, these days. But Iam pretty sure that I wouldnt have done this when I was a younger coward.
Than I found this plate laying in the garage.

Oooh noooo- not what you are thinking.... we are looking forward to complete our mission and bring Father Fury to the meet. But only for one day would not be enough. Now we are making plans for a nice little program before and after d-day.
The hell we are about is the "green hell" aka the Nuerburgring race track.
This is the most famous track in the world and maybe still the most exciting. Build in 1927 all the heros of racing made their own experiences with this unique track in a great landscape. Even the trip down there through the Eifel hills is an adventure. Some roads are so dangerous that they are closed for motorcycles now, because of to many deadly crashes in the past.Some days the Ring is open for private riders and drivers. We are sure that Rico will love this, but does he bring a bike? No. Does that mean we cant? No!

One of the latest projects is the new Kawasaki Clubman Retro kit. Jochen, the owner and Detlef who is one of our friends agreed to give Rico one of the bikes for this ride!

The idea is that we build a group of bikes, go to Krefeld to pick up the bike and do the ride to the Ring together. That can happen on the 13. or the 15. July. If you want to join in, let us know.

We already introduced the Motor-Classics shop to you. This is how the will be part of the cnm:
the motorcycle emergency room.

Yes guys, as we all know our rides sometimes make problems in the worst moment. If this happens to you on your way to the cnm, we will help. Günter and Rolf of Classic Motor will bring a mobile work shop and some consumable/standart parts and assist with all their skills to bring you back on the road. And even in the worst case- they will take care of your ride.
A few days before d-day we will post a telephone number on our blogs. If something happens you can call this number and we will pick you up, but please only in 50km range around Nettetal orin real need.

Well, I know some call it stupid but I call it confidence. Pit and I working hard to get my bike finished before this date. And we know it will be last minute. Maybe not even enough time for test rides.

Parking

Guarded night parking!
Yes, boys and girls. We want you to get safe into your sleeping bags or beds after the party.
You want to have a few beers for pretty sure, but because you love your ride you want to have it secured over the night also. Well, we know this problem and thats why we got a theft secured parking lot very close to the event spot. High stone walls around it, a strong steel door and there will be a guard all night long.

The German Custombike Magazine asked me to write a column. Therefore I skipped through my very few memorables and pics from the time I got into choppers. I found this photograph of the first chopper I saw for real. That was in Denmark '71.

In '74 my 18 birthday was in reach and so the drivers licence. Just one more year. Time to buy a BSA and the catalogue of the only Chopper parts supplier in Germany back than: AME
I found this nice original copy in a drawer and decided to share this with all you lucky born late.

Let me introduce some friends to you. The VeniceVintageMotorcycleClub.
Californian lifestyle at its best. Located in Venice Beach,CA these guys enjoying their life. This club is wellknown for the weekly barhopper run on wednesdays (doing at least 4 bars in a row) and the monthly canyon run, that is a ride out in the greater Los Angeles area with about 70 bikes joining in. And sometimes even EwanMcGregor in this bunch. Our good friend and Choppertown director Scott is leader of the pack most of the times. And be aware- he rides the shit out of the Harbortown Bobber.

Shannon Sweeney, who is running a motorcycle shop in Venice is "El capitan" of the VVMC.

Many of the customers of his shop have very smll mirrors mounted on the handlebar ends of their scoots, coming from Shannon.

He found a type of mirrors, produced originally for BMX bicycles, that have an amazing wide angle view over two lanes at least. He modifies them for motorcycle use. And they are perfect.

He will send a few to us, so you have the chance to buy them for a small $, or even win one in our raffle.

The 2 most important supporters of our case are Pepe and Mark, owners of the Quartier Latin. This pub is the center of the CNM again and we would not be able doing this without this men. But it is not the business that drives the brothers. It is their passion for motorcycles. They have a nice little collection of bikes in their hidden shed. No fancy stuff and not of a particular style, but with a lot of soul. And regarding the English racing bikes from the old times- a lot of balls. By the way in a couple of days the other big event around the QL is happening: the "Springjam" Open Air music festival. 2 days full of RnR. Check out the hp for more. http://www.quartier-latin.info/
